At the Wall and Beyond:
Jon Snow: Justin Long
Ygritte: Reese Witherspoon
Sam Tarly: Jonah Hill (okay, I don’t really think he’d be that great for the role, but he’s the only fat actor I could think of)
Jeor Mormont: Brian Cox
Allister Thorne: Nick Brimble (John Little from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves)
Maester Aemon: Anthony Hopkins
Janos Slynt: Alan Rickman
Mance Rayder: Jim Carrey (think Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)

hahaha nice. These are some good choices. I think Justin is a great pick as long as he can get viewers to look past his funnyman roots. Hopkins would be perfect Aemon. The only one I don't see is Ygritte - but I think we picture her a lot differently.
ps - Dolorous Ed is perfect. Also, I wasn't convinced on Carrey until I saw the pic - but after seeing that I am on board.
I am constantly surprised by each of these posts. Simply by the fact that there are still people left in Hollywood for these roles! Seems like you've named everyone, and then you pull out everyone else.
lol... the number of actors in this world is huge... I have a "back up" list of actors too that's at least 15 long of people I'd like to add but there aren't roles for them... yet.
As far as Ygritte goes, I couldn't really come up with someone too good. Reese has the right attitude though, so I figure make-up could "homely-fy" her enough for the look. The ideal I think, would be John Little's wife (in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves) only 20 years younger.
no, NO, NO!!!
Like Justin Long a lot. Did we talk about Zack & Miri? Movie is worth seeing merely for Justin Long's cameo. Good call on Brian Cox and Anthony Hopkins.
Lol, this list looks like I just picked a bunch of comedians, but I really stand by this (except Jonah Hill). Particularly Jim Carrey and Justin Long, I think they'd be phenomenal. Maybe I defend them so much because I believe there's a lot more humor going on in the North than most readers see...
I think Patrick Renna (Hamilton Porter from the movie 'The Sandlot') would be pretty good for Samwell Tarly. Before he lost weight, that is.
